The New York Life Foundation created the Aim High grant program to support the ability of local community-based afterschool and summer learning programs to provide the foundational skills and guidance that middle school students need to be prepared for the critical transition into high school. The New York Life Foundation’s educational enhancement grantmaking strategy aims to provide opportunities that help students in middle school thrive and become better prepared to complete high school and go on to college, providing them a brighter future. FACTS Grant & Aid Financial Aid Program provides a need-based financial aid. In addition, these programs provide benefits to students that extend beyond academics, helping develop the whole young person-cognitively, socially, and emotionally. At Aim High School, we strive to make our school accessible for any student. Enriching out-of-school time (OST) programs-such as afterschool and summer learning programs-are an effective means of helping middle school students successfully transition from 8th to 9th grade. For instance, just 63 percent of students with disabilities graduated from high school in 2011, compared to 78 percent of all students. On behalf of the New York Life Foundation, the Afterschool Alliance invites out-of-school time programs to apply for a competitive grant opportunity to support and bolster the ability of afterschool and summer learning programs to help prepare middle school students for success in high school, college, and life.Ī large body of evidence indicates the critical role of middle school in determining a young person’s long-term academic trajectory. Turner said the Beygood grant couldn't have come at a more perfect time. ![]() The BeyGOOD grant was created by singer Beyonce's foundation, BeyGOOD, in partnership with the NAACP to support struggling Black small business owners impacted by the 2020 pandemic and nationwide unrest. Turner received the news that she was a recipient of the NAACP-BeyGOOD Small Business Grant. At one time, Aim High Prep had no power.Īfter hearing a radio commercial about singer Beyonce providing grants for Black-owned small businesses, Turner decided to apply never expecting to win.īut her luck changed. ![]() Turner said she really needed the funding. Turner did not get one of the small business loans the government provided to help struggling businesses during the height of the pandemic. Turner worried about the emotional impact the news - the civil unrests in cities and murders of unarmed African Americans - were having on Black children on top of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mission of Aim High Prep is to empower parents in a partnership to develop their children. Turner created Aim High Prep because she believed there was a real need for strong, early education. Turner made the switch from being a special education teacher with a solid foundation in all grades to opening her own daycare and preschool in Houston, Texas. ![]()
